Joe Bradford - Football Hero!

Joe Bradford

Joe Bradford was one of the finest goalscorers of his day, a marksman with formidable shooting power. Perfectly proportioned, he was fast over a short distance, could use both feet and was a fine header of the ball.

Born at Pegg's Green on the day Queen Victoria died, Bradford scored 14 goals in a match for Pegg's Green Victoria against Bristol Rovers and hit 65 goals in a season for Coleorton. Birmingham City signed him in 1920, Pegg's Green receiving £100 and a further £25 when he made his first team debut.

He remained with 'the blues' until May 1935 scoring a record 249 league goals. He helped Birmingham win the Second Division title in 1921 and scored for the losing Birmingham side against West Brom in the 1931 FA Cup Final.

Joe Bradford won 12 England caps and he played in a Football League X1 five times.
