Grassland Restoration Management Work As part of the ongoing maintenance of the Gorse Field, working parties from the Swannington Heritage Trust are undertaking further work of selective scrub clearance this winter. Over the years the area of open grassland has gradually been reduced by the encroachment of bracken, trees and shrubs. Natural open grassland is an important and diminishing wildlife habitat. Advised by the Wildlife Trust we are working to restore the area of open grassland and naturally occurring wild flowers by controlled grazing and the clearance of bracken, scrub and encroaching trees to maintain the patchwork of varied habitats on this important wildlife site. During this work, which is confined to the winter months, it may be necessary, in the interests of safety, to temporarily close one or more of the permissive paths on the site. Visitors are asked to observe closure notices and warning signs. The work will be carried out over a number of years to minimise the disturbance to wildlife and visitors alike.
