Information has been supplied to Monsieur Dat from France about the noted Victorian historian, Clement Stretton, A copy of our re-publication of his "History of the Leicester and Swannington Railway" has been sent to him. Information has also been supplied about the Moss and Walker families, who had associations with the Grove, and about the Bath family of New Swannington. Overseas contact has been made with a descendent of the Brewin and Holloway families. An extensive genealogical background has been supplied, to a contact in New Zealand, about the Knight family of Stordon Grange. Assistance has given in answer to questions about the Challoner and Moon families. Constable Challoner was injured in dealing with a mass absconding of boys from the St. Bernard's Reformatory School at nearby Whitwick. The young lady researcher was put into contact with family members during a visit to the village and copies of photographs were supplied. Shipley children were identified on our website's old school photograph for a descendent of the family. During research about the victims of the Califat mine disaster of 1863, contact was made regarding the family of one of them, Jeremiah Rose. Much information has been exchanged with a descendents of the Rose family. A very detailed exchange of information has taken place with an Australian member of the Smallwood family, who were employed in the local mines for about 100 years. Correspondent Ron Gibson has sent copies of many family photos for our archive.
